Probably the most touching moment I’ve ever had meeting someone in character ✨ READ BELOW ⬇️⬇️

I was on my way to @thehubanoka for my storytime a few weekends ago and I ran into @lucyhunter13 and her son Casey. She asked if I could stop to say hello and take a photo with Casey who is non verbal. I replied, “of course!” and proceeded to kneel down next to Casey. When his eyes met mine he broke into a HUGE smile and was filled with excitement! It was SO sweet!! 🥹 Lucy said, “wow! He loves you!” She thanked me and I thanked them and I was on my way…
I had forgotten about this quick interaction until I read a message from Lucy a few weeks later…she said:

“I wanted to reach out because your kindness meant so much to our family this weekend.

My son, Casey, has special needs and is non-speaking. We meet you as you were arriving for story time, and you took a couple of minutes to stop for a picture.

What touched me most was the way you interacted with Casey. You spoke directly to him with such warmth, making him feel seen and important. Most people speak to me instead of him, and watching someone connect with him was incredibly moving.

Casey was absolutely captivated by you. His smile said everything he couldn’t put into words. As his mom, I hope the world will see the amazing little boy that I see every day. In those few moments, you did exactly that.

Thank you for seeing Casey before seeing his disability. What may have felt like a small interaction to you became a memory that I’ll treasure forever. Your kindness made an impact on both of us, and I wanted you to know how appreciated you are.”

😭😭😭I was SO moved by this message because I had no idea how that short greeting had impacted this mom and her son!!🥹 What I thought was just an average encounter was something much more!!
All this to say, please 🙏 PLEASE treat those around you with the respect and kindness you wish to receive. Kids like Casey or ANY child deserves to be seen, heard and shown how important they are. Those short encounters with adults around them carry weight - much more weight than we think!!
