WHEN THE BODY CAN’T GO LONG, IT OFTEN GOES WIDE.

The body is incredibly intelligent at finding ways to keep us upright and moving.

When there isn’t enough length, space, or adaptability through the fascial system, the tissues may begin to spread outward and widen as part of a compensatory pattern.

You may see it in the rib cage.
The pelvis.
The waist.
The shoulders.
The legs.

The body finds somewhere else to go.

This is one reason I’m not interested in simply forcing someone into “better posture” or trying to make individual body parts look symmetrical.

My intention through Dr. Ida Rolf’s Method of Structural Integration is to work with the fascial relationships of the entire body—to help create the possibility for length, balance, and organization in gravity.

✨ Length instead of compression
✨ Space instead of restriction
✨ Balance instead of compensation
✨ Support instead of holding

As the tissue becomes more adaptable and the body finds greater length, it may no longer need to organize itself through the same widening and compensatory patterns.

Dr. Rolf understood something incredibly important:

We are not just organizing the body—we are organizing the body in relationship to gravity.

When the structure becomes more balanced, gravity can become an ally rather than something the body is constantly struggling against.

The goal isn't to hold yourself straighter.

The goal is to create a body that no longer has to work so hard to be upright.
