Some pop culture moments simply refuse to be forgotten. 😭😂

At the 2009 VMAs, Jay-Z and Alicia Keys were closing out “Empire State of Mind” when Lil Mama unexpectedly made her way onto the stage and stood beside them for the final pose.

And the internet has NEVER let her forget it. 😭

Years later, Lil Mama explained that she was overwhelmed by the moment and the connection she felt to New York and the song…but at the time, everybody watching had the exact same question:

“Wait… why is Lil Mama up there?!” 😂

It became one of those unscripted award-show moments permanently stamped into 2000s pop culture.

💬 Be honest: Do you remember watching this happen in real time? What was your reaction? 👀
