Some pop culture moments simply refuse to be forgotten. 😭😂

At the 2009 VMAs, Jay-Z and Alicia Keys were closing out “Empire State of Mind” when Lil Mama unexpectedly made her way onto the stage and stood beside them for the final pose.

And the internet has NEVER let her forget it. 😭

Years later, Lil Mama explained that she was overwhelmed by the moment and the connection she felt to New York and the song…but at the time, everybody watching had the exact same question:

“Wait… why is Lil Mama up there?!” 😂

It became one of those unscripted award-show moments permanently stamped into 2000s pop culture.

💬 Be honest: Do you remember watching this happen in real time? What was your reaction? 👀

Some songs don’t just become hits…they become part of our lives.

“Ex-Factor” is one of those records.

Lauryn Hill gave us a song that captured heartbreak, vulnerability, love, and self-reflection in a way that still resonates decades later. Whether you’ve experienced love, loss, or simply grown through life’s ups and downs, this record seems to find new meaning with every listen.

That’s why The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill remains one of the most celebrated albums in Black music history. It didn’t just influence R&B and hip-hop…it influenced generations of artists and listeners.

Some music belongs to a moment. This song belongs to forever.

🎶 What’s your favorite song from The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill?

One thing about Denise Huxtable... she was always going to keep her family on their toes. 😂🔥

This episode of The Cosby Show became memorable because Denise’s reggae-singing boyfriend walked into the Huxtable household and immediately had everyone trying to figure him out.

What makes the scene so funny isn’t just the singing…it’s watching Cliff Huxtable try to process everything happening in real time. 😭

Moments like this are why Denise became one of the most beloved characters on television. She was independent, unpredictable, and always marching to the beat of her own drum.

Looking back, this episode is still just as funny and awkward as it was the first time it aired.

Would your parents have approved? 👀😂

Some songs find you at one point in life and mean something completely different when you hear them years later. 🥹🤎

Solange released “Cranes in the Sky” in 2016, giving us one of the most beautiful reflections on trying to escape feelings you haven’t fully processed.

And the world recognized the artistry. In 2017, the song earned Solange her first Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance. 🏆✨

The visuals. The vulnerability. The storytelling. Everything about this record was ART.

Nearly a decade later, it still hits.

Did you understand “Cranes in the Sky” when it first dropped, or did LIFE make you understand it later? 👀👇🏾

Listening to “First Day Out” by Tee Grizzley brings back memories of living in Detroit during the mid-late 2010s. Remember back in 2017 when grabbing gas for under $2.70 a gallon and splitting an $850 apartment felt manageable? Fast forward to today, and basic survival costs have almost doubled across Michigan! 🫠

Between Michigan gas prices hovering over $4.40 a gallon, DTE Energy repeatedly pushing for utility rate increases, groceries taking double-digit chunks out of our paychecks, and average rent across Metro Detroit climbing over 40% since 2016, existing as a young adult in Michigan feels way more expensive.

This massive shift isn’t just random inflation, it’s driven by state and local policy decisions. From utility regulation and housing development laws to minimum wage policies and public transportation funding, elected leaders shape what everyday living costs look like in our cities.

Sitting out on Election Day means letting corporate lobbies and utility monopolies make those financial calls for us. Don’t let that happen! Deadline to register in Michigan is 10/19. 🗳️

Sometimes the biggest LEVEL UP is realizing what you no longer have to tolerate. 😮‍💨💅🏾

Ciara dropped “Level Up” in 2018 and gave us a whole soundtrack for getting our lives TOGETHER! 🔥

The choreography. The energy. The MESSAGE.

And let’s be clear… Ciara has NEVER played about an eight-count! 😭

What’s one thing you’re leaving behind in your level-up era? 👀👇🏾

The type of music that has to come on when the little boo isn’t registered to vote. 🎶

Because being boo’d up on the Hill, planning homecoming fits and getting ready to pop out is all fun and games until election season rolls around and voter registration is nowhere in the conversation!

Texas HBCU culture is about more than the bands, the classics, the homecoming traditions and the school pride. It is also connected to the policies and decisions that shape the future of these institutions and the communities surrounding them.

From Texas Southern University in Houston’s Third Ward to Prairie View A&M University, decisions about state budgets and higher education funding can affect campus facilities, academic programs, student resources and educational opportunities. Understanding how these decisions are made, who is responsible for them and how public funding is allocated is part of understanding the challenges HBCUs face.

Underfunding is not just a number on a budget sheet. It can have real implications for the resources available to students and the long-term growth of institutions that have educated generations of Black leaders.

That is why voter registration and civic awareness matter. Elections determine who represents communities and makes decisions on issues such as education, public funding and economic opportunity. Voting is one way to participate in that process, and staying informed helps people better understand what is at stake.

The homecoming fits can be planned, the group chats can stay active and the boo can still be boo’d. But understanding the issues affecting Texas HBCUs deserves a place in the conversation, too.

The more we know, the more we understand. And understanding the issues is part of understanding #OurPower.

It’s not arrogance when you KNOW who you are. 😮‍💨💅🏾

Janet Jackson walked onto that 2018 Billboard Music Awards stage like the ICON she is!

And rightfully so! That night, she became the first Black woman to receive Billboard’s Icon Award. 👑🏆

The walk. The confidence. The PRESENCE. Some things just can’t be taught.

Ladies, what’s your go-to song when you need to channel THIS level of confidence? 👀👇🏾

April 2018. Beyoncé became the FIRST Black woman to headline Coachella, and somehow she STILL had another surprise waiting for us. 😭🐝🔥

During her historic Beychella performance, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams joined her onstage for a Destiny’s Child reunion!

The harmonies. The choreography. The nostalgia. THREE women who helped shape an entire era of R&B, back onstage together. 🥹❤️

And Beyoncé didn’t just headline a festival. She brought HBCU-inspired marching bands, Black cultural traditions and a celebration of Black excellence to one of music’s biggest stages.

Seven years later, this performance still deserves its flowers! 👏🏾

Be honest… which Destiny’s Child song would’ve made you LOSE IT if you were in that crowd? 👀👇🏾

2019 Saweetie had the girls feeling like their standards came with a price tag. 😭💅🏾

“My Type” was EVERYWHERE that summer, and the second that beat dropped, you already knew what time it was!

The confidence. The energy. The way this song made everybody feel like the prize. 😂🔥

But let’s talk about it… did your TYPE change between 2019 and now, or are you still standing on business? 👀👇🏾

2016 was the year EVERYBODY became a dancer. 😭😂

Zay Hilfigerrr & Zayion McCall dropped “Juju on That Beat,” and suddenly everybody had a dance routine ready to go!

School hallways, birthday parties, family functions, social media… this dance was EVERYWHERE. 🔥

And don’t act like you didn’t practice until you got it right. 😂

Be honest… can you STILL do the entire dance without missing a step? 👀👇🏾

Imagine being 17 years old, speaking about your future… and actually living it. 🥹👏🏾

Back in 2005, Rihanna was just beginning her music career. Fast-forward two decades, and she’s become a global superstar, Grammy-winning artist and business mogul.

The vision was there before the world fully understood what was coming. 😭❤️

There’s something powerful about watching someone believe in themselves before everything falls into place.

Do y’all believe in speaking your dreams into existence? 👀👇🏾
