A medical emergency landed my dad in the hospital, and I’m feeling especially grateful this morning and cautiously hopeful that he will be okay.

I would be hard-pressed to navigate any of this without my sisters, whose calm, strength, and love - especially over these most recent years - have given me an even deeper respect for them. I’m also profoundly thankful for my parents’ thoughtful planning: having their advance directives and legal documents in order allowed my doctor-sister to make important decisions in the moment.

For those in my age group, I am realizing this is one of the greatest gifts you can give the people who love you: make a plan, put your wishes and documents in order, and talk about them before a crisis arrives.

And about the nurses in charge of my dad’s care: they are truly angels. Their kindness, gentleness, patience, and care mean more than I can say. Thank you. 💗💗💗
