I found the original sketch in a drawer a couple of weeks ago. I drew it in March 2024 and always liked the looseness and freedom in it. looking at it again, I wondered whether I could translate that feeling into a series of paintings. These four are what resulted. I really like the series- the colour the pattern and the way the shapes have developed. but somewhere along the way I think I lost some of the looseness that attracted me to the original drawing in the first place. So perhaps that is the next challenge: can I keep the colour and the pattern; but bring back more of that freedom? I’m psyching myself up to have another go-perhaps on paper rather than canvas next time-and see what happens. sometimes one series seems to lead straight into the next question.
