i understand the fine therapist need Lori Gottlieb was trying to thread, but unfortunately, her advice missed the mark.
White parents need to hear the message loud and clear: if your kids - of any age - are racist, it IS your responsibility to take them to task. if you are curious about *how* to do this, check out chapter 7 of my book - WAS THAT RACIST? How to Detect, Interrupt, and Unlearn Bias in Everyday Life.

Also explain why its not okay! A lot of the ppl promoting these views tell the kids watching that negative reactions mean that these views are true

I'm so glad you shared this on here! I haven't had a chance to respond to your message yet, but, yeah.... There was some seriously lack of accountability in all of it -- the mom, the son -- which is really the norm, even more so now that there are so few examples in the news of someone actually standing up to do the right thing. Our semester starts next week but I am thinking of writing a letter to the editor to respond to her advice -- the Ethicist column now responses every week
