28🎉🎂🥳

Looking back at 27, I see a year that didn’t go how I planned—but exactly how I needed. It was a year of lessons, of letting go, of being redirected when things didn’t work out. Not every door opened, but every closed one taught me something about my worth and where I truly belong.

I’m stepping into 28 with a softer heart, a stronger mind, and a deeper sense of self. Less proving, more knowing. Less chasing, more attracting.

Here’s to a new year of becoming, of blooming without forcing it, and stepping fully into the woman I’ve been growing into🌸✨

Thank you to my people who have already made 28 feel so special🎉

At the @backonmyfeet luncheon today a volunteer said “running takes a lot out of you, but it always gives back more than it takes.”

Even though I’ve been running road marathons my whole career, my last 11 years of marathoning have been dedicated to guiding visually impaired athletes, pacing friends, or volunteering.

It’s time for me to don a bib and run one for myself. To all those hitting the CHI-town streets, let’s get it done!

Peering through the window of her family’s van, Mavis Richardson pulled into the dropoff area of Carson Elementary School, the public school where she used to be a student.

A year ago, the 10-year-old wore a purple dress and matching sneakers. She now donned a Cornerstone Christian Schools navy and red plaid skirt.

Mavis and her siblings had all attended public schools until this fall. Now, four of the family’s six school-aged children are enrolled in private schools, with tuition paid for under the state’s new private school voucher program.

The vouchers brought more than new classmates and morning routines. Mavis’ parents, Nichole and Trevor McDaniel, had eyed Cornerstone since joining the affiliated church in 2022. The voucher program was an answered prayer.

But the family has faced unexpected costs, struggled to get support for a son with disabilities and navigated logistical hurdles along the way.
