Part 1 of our "Writing our own queer stories: counter archiving in divisive times" workshop with
@moonjiboi !
We kickstarted off this session with an 11 minute documentary created by VAMP (Veshya Anyay Mukti Parishad / "Sex Workers Freedom from Injustice" - a sex-worker led collective) in Maharashtra, and then a discussion of how important sex worker stories be told in their own lens instead of someone swooping in to document from another country.
We then read pieces including and not limited to
@kaichengthom , abby.silversmith and more - interweaving queerness, transness, the system and the state, the diaspora. The poetry and prose, and the depth of it all.
As the icing on the cake, we shredded, ripped and blacked-out words from existing literature and articles about old and new legislation, including current trans-discriminatory laws in India, as well as the Section 377 penal code that is still very much present in many countries in the world.... And made them into blooming collages!
Collages will be posted in Part 2, stay tuned ๐
