On view in the side gallery, opening this Friday - “Daniel Shapiro: Form in Play” showcases a selection of functional works that celebrate the artist’s playful approach to clay. Based in St. Louis, Shapiro brings a background in graphic design and art direction to a studio practice that bridges art and design, translating graphic ideas into tactile, three-dimensional forms. Characterized by bold silhouettes, unexpected shapes, movement, and humor, his lighting and furniture challenge conventional ideas of function while remaining deeply rooted in utility. Since discovering clay in 2017, Shapiro has developed a distinctive visual language that balances sculptural expression with everyday use, creating objects that are as joyful as they are functional.
