Henry Baumann’s acclaimed Boo Series transforms resin into luminous, sculptural forms. Built from meticulously stacked resin bubbles and grounded by polished brass feet, each piece balances structure and spontaneity, with soft translucency and smooth matte surfaces that invite a closer look.

Working without preliminary sketches, Baumann allows chance to shape the process, embracing experimentation and the unexpected. “When I’m experimenting with these materials, I often begin with an idea that fails—but through failure, something unexpected emerges. I’m fascinated by that process.”

Boo Byju by Henry Baumann, designed for Nilufar Edition — a collection that explores the expressive power of the sphere, the most elemental of forms.

Built from playful, rounded volumes that can stand alone or be combined, Boo Byju works like a set of modular building blocks: each configuration becomes the foundation for a different piece. Rather than dictating a fixed outcome, Baumann sets a flexible framework where chance interactions shape the final result—so the contours remain irregular, and every lamp reveals its own unpredictable character. The material is central to the experience: the gentle translucency of resin diffuses light into a soft, ethereal radiance, while the smooth, fluid surfaces invite touch, heightening the series’ sensory appeal. Inherently unique, Boo Byju finds its balance between intention and spontaneity—where material, process, and form come together in quiet harmony.

Baumann’s (@henry_baumann) practice begins with curiosity and unfolds through trial, repetition, and the material’s own inherent qualities—letting form emerge through reproduction, mutation, and selection, with coincidence playing a vital role. As he says: “When I’m trying out materials, testing out their boundaries, I start with an initial idea… Through this process I embark on a journey without knowing the destination.”
