Book club review!! 🌸

⭐️Our ratings ⭐️
Sam: 8.5/10
Ashlyn: 8.5/10
Ami: 4/10
Emily: 7/10
Lianna: 7/10
Olivia: 8/10 *

Most of us enjoyed this read! The overall feeling we had is that we liked following Frankie’s journey, and we were surprised by how much of it followed her after the war.

Some of us didn’t love that it was so focused on the American perspective, and felt that it missed an opportunity to include more women’s perspectives, such as some of the women Frankie intersected with in Vietnam. It also felt a little predictable at times.

On a personal note, this wasn’t my favorite Kristin Hannah novel. At the time, I gave it an 8, because I did enjoy it while reading. But I’ve had distance since reading it and I think I would actually lower my rating to a 6 😬😬

I think the main thing I keep coming back to when I reflect on this book is that it doesn’t really feel like it’s about women, but rather really about Frankie. And that’s so fine, but if you’re going into it thinking it’s one thing but it’s actually another, it’s disappointing. I also felt like her reintegration back into her old life felt a bit lacking, and also a bit confusing (love interest angle).

If I were to recommend you a Kristin Hannah novel, I would say skip this one and read either “The Nightingale” or “The Great Alone”.

This isn’t my favourite KH book, but I did enjoy it. The Nightingale, Four Winds and Winter Garden are my favourites 💗

But I so stand 10 toes down my rating, loved this one! I'll need to read more of her books to compare
