I was a 16 years old kid with an opportunity & a dream when I got the incredible privilege of interviewing Dolly Parton for “Meet the Kids”.
Watching this again today, what moves me most isn’t any one thing she said. It’s how she was.
Here was one of the biggest stars in the world, sitting with a group of teenagers — Completely present. She listened, she was funny, honest and open… Even about sex😂
She made the distance between us disappear. There was something mesmerizing about her, a profound kindness and generosity. A Lightness. She didn’t have to tell you who she was, she modeled it.
She once said, “I believe we all have a right to be exactly who we are, and it is not my place to judge… I just try to be myself. I try to let everybody else be themselves.”
She didn’t just say it. She lived it.
I think the reason we were all so enamored was that she didn’t try to teach those qualities, she embodied them, in an almost
Angelic way.
How ironic that was my first interviewing/hosting gig-
Feeling so grateful for that little moment in time, to be in the presence of that Light. Very few in the entertainment industry that radiate that level of cellular goodness. 🪽
