The Spirits at Fort Screven’s Battery Garland 👻
Couple months ago I got to do this animated project based on one of the many scary ghost stories in the Savannah area. I took to the neighboring Tybee Island, where Fort Screven stands (former military base during the Spanish-American war and both world wars, current Tybee Island museum), right by the Tybee Lighthouse.
The “Battery Garland” located inside the fort contains hundreds of years of military history, but that also comes with its reputation as one of the most haunted places in Tybee Island. Visitors and ghost hunters report eerie anomalies, hearing voices of those lost in war, and the sounds of footsteps while exploring the outdoor areas as well as the fort’s underground tunnels.
This was a fun project and a chance to learn a little more about Savannah and Tybee history for me! I liked designing this like a found-footage documentary where they just barely catch a glimpse of the ghosts surrounding the fort.
I haven’t actually gotten the chance to see it in person yet—maybe next time I’m in Sav.
