🧠🏈 A new study from
@bostonu,
@massgeneralbrigham, and the Concussion & CTE Foundation is raising new questions about the prevalence of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) among former NFL players.
Researchers analyzed 1,712 former NFL players who died between 2016 and 2021, including 338 who donated their brains. CTE was found in 93.2% of the donated brains, leading researchers to estimate that at least 24.5% of all players studied may have had the disease, with a worst-case estimate as high as 97.7%.
Jesse Mez,
@bu_cte Center codirector of clinical research, called the findings a “call to action” for more research, discussion of risk, and support for affected families.
