Kona 🥺 not how I envisioned my day unfolding. I put myself in great position off the bike, but from KM 1 of the run it was a real battle to get one foot in front of the other. Maybe over-biked or under-fueled, mistakes you cannot make in conditions like this. Battled a million demons for 42km and thought there was absolutely no way that I could finish. Maybe someday I’ll be proud of getting to the finish line but for now I’m just sad and embarrassed. I just want to say a huge thank you to the other women on course for their encouragement as they passed me. I’ve never felt so much like “we’re in this together”, everyone going through their own mental battles. Also to the amazing volunteers who brought me back to life a bit at every station. And of course @eric_lagerstrom ❤️ it was possibly a much worse day for him watching me get through that. Thank you all for the love, as of now I’m never doing that again, but you never know 🙂. 📷 @nickgoldston

Peering through the window of her family’s van, Mavis Richardson pulled into the dropoff area of Carson Elementary School, the public school where she used to be a student. A year ago, the 10-year-old wore a purple dress and matching sneakers. She now donned a Cornerstone Christian Schools navy and red plaid skirt. Mavis and her siblings had all attended public schools until this fall. Now, four of the family’s six school-aged children are enrolled in private schools, with tuition paid for under the state’s new private school voucher program. The vouchers brought more than new classmates and morning routines. Mavis’ parents, Nichole and Trevor McDaniel, had eyed Cornerstone since joining the affiliated church in 2022. The voucher program was an answered prayer. But the family has faced unexpected costs, struggled to get support for a son with disabilities and navigated logistical hurdles along the way.
