This summer has been about first ice creams, watching faces discover favourite flavours, turning my back and finding surprises that have strengthened my own imagination, music being a cord that brings me closer to family and myself, reconnecting with friends who live overseas and meeting their gorgeous children for the first time, having those friends meet mine, endless time spent preparing picnics, cutting up the food so it will be received well by little hands and mouths and bellies, whipping round the house packing all that is required for a mini-festival for three at the park - elevate the simple experiences - lifting solid bodies, double buggies and burgeoning bags, my back is ripped, my calves are rock hard, I don't care how much you lift in the gym. It's been a summer for giving thanks for being close to the sea, and for having the ability to get into the city. For chatting to animals and listening to art on a wall. The world is full of awful things but it's also full of wonder and I'm just trying to navigate it all on this little boat I've made, with my hands and my tears and some blood and plenty of sweat. It's humble but it's floating, and right now, that's all that I can ask for. ✨
