Looking through these photos, I’m mostly thinking about the friends I made, the lessons learned and experiences had. We worked hard, made mistakes and laughed our way through a language barrier.

I left Veracruz with friendships worth keeping and a few honest reminders of where I need to improve. Grateful for the experience. Proud to have represented the Caribbean. 🇹🇨

Come and meet my mom! She always shows up in a lot of different ways. And I’m sure nobody sees her in the same ways that I see her. It took some time before I was able to see her in her many forms. After my mom died, I wasn’t ready to look for her. I wasn’t ready to say hi in a new way. I just wasn’t ready for a lot of things. And if it doesn’t feel like you’ve seen signs from your dead people, you’re not alone. Not everyone does! Also I’m a big believer that they all decide when the time is right to come back and say hi. All we can do is keep saying hi to them and keep looking for them. Everywhere. All the time. However feels right to you. They are out there. Somewhere. And you get to grieve them however you want to, even if that means talking to plants and animals and doing things society calls “weird.” That’s grief for you. And it can be a beautiful thing.
