(Late) follow up to a video I posted six months ago on 3/28 about substance use and other activities deemed “low vibrational,” by people in the new age spiritual community.

We’re here to experience immanence, not this bullshit obsession with ascendancy or transcendence. That just buys into the idea that the body is inherently sinful and dirty, that needs to be risen above. If that was the point, why the hell would we come to experience something we just want to escape from? Go hard into whatever you want to go into. The soul shapes us as individuals and it’s different for us all. This cookie cutter, self optimisation crap is patriarchal, dominance mechanism at its worst.

I agree with this :) I & my entire family struggle with immense drug addiction issues. my moms side are all some of the most psychic people i’ve met irl so far. Our life circumstances are just that, everyone is inherently ‘spiritual’ & engaging in ‘high/low vibe behaviors’. Maybe high & low doesn’t have to be a hierarchical thing, rather a spectrum & indifferent. Maybe I wanna enjoy my substance every now & then? & maybe my gifts were just as accurate & my shadow work just as doable when I was using. The wonderful thing abt this path is the ability to hold nuance 🫶🏻

I’m of the opinion that needing to be “high vibrational” or whatever is an addiction in and of itself. Orthorexia is a whole ass thing. While I do not consume fast food, I do smoke ouid daily to manage pain and CPTSD symptoms, and let’s face it, because I love it. It has never once affected my ability to “see sideways”, and I would say vastly improves my experiences with meditative trance states.

Yes yes YESSS!!! I found my connection to Creation within the trenches of my addiction. And I held on to that while I navigated it. Shame was the one thing that had to go!

YES YOURE SO REAL‼️ I venture to say there’s an overlap here too, of neurodivergence— which might just be me deviating from the point and going into a different path altogether but, so many neurodivergent individuals are both heavily spiritual AND self-medicate. (“Self-medicate” used as an overall term for those who use substances as is fit for them, and also those overuse or abuse them.) for everyone judging or against this, it’s worth taking the time to recognize how much of that is tandem! A society created WITHOUT neurodivergent individuals in mind— nor individuals of any faith other than Christian/Catholic— will absolutely lead a lot of people outside of those categories to substances that can make life more digestible. As you mentioned there’s a self-awareness that comes with addiction, that same self-awareness is what I think everyone struggling from addiction and mental illness feels everyday. The self-awareness that YOU’RE not low vibrational but rather, LIVING IN a society that actively is. It’s hard to be a spiritual person, OR neurodivergent person, especially both, without coming to the conclusion that the world is definitely not made for people like you. That doesn’t mean you’re lacking, lower-vibrational, or any less spiritual than anyone else. You’re doing your best in a world that was tailored to the opposite of you, for your soul. No one should ever judge that.

I mean, harshly judging people is pretty fucking "low vibrational" and even more so than using coping strategies that aren't traditionally seen as positive.

there's this honestly around limits/not being able to honor them, wanting to push limits, causing harm to self, and just basic human craving to expierence SENSATIONS that I appreciate immensely in people with addiction. are they always honest abt their addiction's impact on self and others? hell no. but that above list is something I profoundly recognize
