Montevideo, for now.

mar inicial entre rocas
y otras veces un árbol
con las últimas hojas.”

a beginning sea among rocks,
and other times a tree
with its last leaves.”

Empty hallways. Cold air. Forgotten memories.

Performing Box Car Racer’s Elevator in this lost place gave me absolute chills. Sound hits differently when the room carries its own ghost.

We have culturally assigned meaning to women’s clothing and bodies that simply isn’t there.

Research has found that when women wear more revealing clothing, they are perceived as having greater sexual intent, and men have even been observed approaching them sooner and assuming they have a better chance of sex. (PubMed)

But skin is not sexual intent. A bikini is not promiscuity. And being comfortable showing your body is not an invitation to interact with it.

I’ve spent most of my life in hot climates, where wearing very little has always been completely ordinary to me. What feels normal on my body can apparently communicate an entire story to someone else—a story I never told.

Maybe it’s time we stopped asking women to dress around other people’s assumptions and started questioning the assumptions themselves.
