Uruguay, at a slower pace.

Mornings in Ciudad Vieja, long walks along the Rambla, afternoons in Pocitos and Barrio Sur. And with spring on its way, a little more time in Prado.

A few of our favourite routes through Montevideo, with more places to discover along the way.

Explore through the link in our bio. SÉRIF Montevideo trip plan displayed over a muted coastal background, showing travel dates from 24 to 29 September 2026 and a preview of recommended routes through the city. taken in Montevideo, Uruguay by @serif.editorial

Cuenca, between the city and its rivers.

Puente Roto ends where the Tomebamba once carried on beneath it. Today, the remaining arches sit above the riverbank, with the city and the hills still visible beyond.

Elsewhere in Cuenca, Jardín Botánico changes the view completely. Open sky gives way to paths, dense vegetation and the Yanuncay and Tarqui rivers around it.

A different side of Cuenca, only a little further from the streets we usually notice first.

Casa Hibiscus, Cuenca.

On Calle Larga, Casa Hibiscus Boutique Hotel sits among the tiled roofs of Cuenca. Behind its red and white façade, the colonial house opens into interior courtyards and a garden tucked away from the street.

@casahibiscus.cue

The house still feels very much present. Its original details sit naturally alongside its life as a boutique hotel, giving the place a sense of being slightly removed from everything outside.

Stay in for a quiet evening or walk out into Cuenca for dinner and a late night. Both feel equally close from here. Montevideo, for now.

mar inicial entre rocas
y otras veces un árbol
con las últimas hojas.”

a beginning sea among rocks,
and other times a tree
with its last leaves.”

A clear winter morning on the Rambla in Pocitos.

Across the water, Montevideo appears almost in layers: the low waterfront, the taller buildings behind it, and the city continuing into the distance.

The Río de la Plata takes up most of the view. The city simply follows its edge.

Lisbon, Portugal.

A yellow Carris tram and a red sightseeing tram, passing through the same stretch of cobbled streets.

Overhead wires, worn stone and that pink wall holding the corner.

Seoul, South Korea.

A traditional roof almost disappears into the trees. Through a wooden window, a small courtyard brings the garden into the house.

The timber, the roofline, the trees just beyond the window.

The garden is as much a part of the architecture as the building itself.

Mely’s Brunch and Bake, La Coruña.

A short distance from the coast, Mely’s is somewhere to stop for coffee or matcha, sit down for brunch, or stay a little longer over a beer.

Afternoon light falls across the tables, with freshly prepared food and a welcome for four-legged visitors, too.

A good place to settle in without watching the clock.

Pocitos, Montevideo.

A few streets back from the Rambla, apartment buildings and older houses sit alongside cafés and local shops. The beach is a familiar part of Pocitos, but there’s plenty to see beyond the waterfront.

Balconies, shaded entrances and trees lining the pavements are part of the neighbourhood’s character. Some buildings catch your attention straight away; others have smaller details worth looking at more closely.

Pocitos is already part of our Montevideo selection. We’ll be sharing more of the city as we continue exploring its neighbourhoods, architecture and everyday life.

Fondation Louis Vuitton, Paris.

It’s difficult to understand the scale of the building until you start walking through it.

One moment you’re beneath enormous glass sails and exposed timber, the next you’re climbing a staircase as sunlight moves across the curved walls. Between the structure, brief views open towards the Bois de Boulogne and Paris beyond, appearing and disappearing as you make your way through the building.

Since opening in 2014, Fondation Louis Vuitton has brought contemporary and modern art into a building conceived by Frank Gehry as more than a container for exhibitions. Its galleries, terraces and changing programme have become part of the cultural life of western Paris, while the architecture remains an experience in its own right.

You spend almost as much time looking around the building as you do at what’s inside.

And perhaps that’s exactly the point.

Guéthary, France.

By the end of the day, the room had fallen almost entirely into shadow. Through the window, the Atlantic held onto the remaining light, somewhere between blue, yellow and the faintest pink.

The kind of view that makes you stay by the window a little longer than you meant to.

Casa da Guia, Cascais.

On the Atlantic edge of Cascais, Casa da Guia occupies the former Quinta dos Condes de Alcáçovas, with its yellow house, tiled details and gardens opening towards the sea. Today the property brings together cafés, restaurants and small shops, but much of its character still comes from the older architecture and the landscape around it, particularly the mature trees framing the house and the coastline beyond.

It is worth spending time beyond the main building. Paths move through the grounds towards the water, where the view opens across the Atlantic and the character of Cascais becomes much more apparent. The combination of the old estate, gardens and exposed coastline makes Casa da Guia an interesting point between the town itself and the road continuing west towards Guincho.
