Kyle Barnes: Venus Rising
10 September - 3 October
Opening: 10 September, 6-8pm
Pontone Gallery is delighted to present Venus Rising, an exhibition of new paintings by Kyle Barnes. @kylebarnesartist
Exploring the female figure through themes of immersion, transformation, and rebirth, Barnes presents large-scale, realistically rendered female heads, isolated against vivid colour-field backgrounds and coated in viscous liquid.
Meticulously observed and forensically detailed, the paintings capture each subject in a striking state of physical suspension, drawing parallels between the ritual use of liquid mediums and the transformative nature of oil paint itself. The resulting images evoke a moment of becoming, recalling the elemental emergence of Botticelli’s Venus from the sea.
