Tonight we honoured the winners of the 2026 Civic Awards at our office in Cobourg!

Thank you to everyone who sent in nominations, we had an extremely difficult time picking out the winners. These awards reminded me once again just how fortunate we are to live in communities filled with people who care so deeply for one another and work every day to make a difference. It is an incredible privilege to represent Northumberland–Clarke and the amazing people who call it home.

A big congratulations to our winners:

🏆 Senior Civic Award: Margaret Hanlan & Susan Smith
🏆 Arts & Culture Civic Award: Jeff Halligan
🏆 Sports & Recreation Civic Award: Wandlynn Tinney
🏆 Volunteer Civic Award: Rose Wilton
🏆 Youth Civic Award: Robert Hildebrand

Before ‘Squid Game,’ @hoooooyeony was doing 10 model castings a day and approaching the runway like a math problem. “When your elbows are in front, you need a 45-degree angle. When your elbow is back, it should be at a 15-degree angle,” she recalls. Now, five years after her first acting role made her a global star, she’s made her big-screen debut in the hit sci-fi thriller, ‘Hope.’ For W, Hoyeon discusses the real message behind the alien film, the audition that changed everything, and why she’s still always chasing her next challenge. The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has moved to recover KSh 623.39 million in alleged outstanding tax arrears from former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko through First Community Bank. In a notice dated October 12, 2026, KRA appointed the bank as its agent, directing it to remit any funds held on Sonko’s behalf, or any money owed to him, towards settling the claimed tax liability. The amount comprises KSh 308.92 million in principal tax, KSh 15.76 million in penalties and KSh 298.72 million in interest, relating to the period between January 2015 and December 2019. KRA invoked Section 42 of the Tax Procedures Act, 2015, which allows it to appoint third parties to help recover unpaid taxes. The authority warned that the bank could become personally liable for the specified amount if it fails to comply with the notice without reasonable cause.
