It’s #indigeneouspeoplesday and given the rise in Christian Nationalism, I thought this debate moment from a @drdafshow episode a few months ago was important to share.

I don’t debate religion very often but in this debate I felt it important to remind Christian fundamentalists that indigenous people were violently oppressed, enslaved, and genocided in the name of the Bible. The fact the text exists is not permission to use against anyone, and certainly not proof that indigenous people were savages who must be “saved” and “civilized”.

Given the woman I debated was a woman of color as well, it felt extra important to name that elephant in the room.
