This week I had to cancel my yoga classes and take a step back.
Last week I had an inflammation in my vocal cords. And then I found out I have a blood clot in my leg.
Looking back, my body had been trying to tell me something for a while..
But I kept going.
I taught classes without much of a voice. I gave treatments and I went dancing with pain in my calf. I kept moving, creating, doing, because there was so much I wanted to do.
And now my body is asking me to slow down. 🐌
Of course, anxiety comes with that.
When life feels overwhelming, I often fall into an old pattern of freeze.
There are so many things I want to create. Projects, dreams, ideas, my education, new offerings… And suddenly, instead of taking one small step, everything feels like too much.
I freeze. I procrastinate. I get anxious. And then I tell myself that I’m not doing enough, that I’m falling behind, that I should be able to do more.
Maybe some of you know this feeling too.
So instead of forcing myself to push through, I’m practising something different.
*but it’s soo hard…
I’m allowing myself to pause.
To rest.
To listen.
To be held.
To remember that I’m not failing or falling behind.
I’m simply in a period of transition and transformation.
And perhaps this pause is part of the transformation too. 🌱
And in the middle of all of this, I’ve been reminded of how deeply blessed I am to have such beautiful friendships.
My girls have come to my home, cooked for me, done my dishes, massaged my head, held me, called me every day to check in.
My family & friends have made me feel so held & loved.
And it reminds me that we don’t have to do everything alone.
Sometimes we get to be held.
Sometimes we get to receive.
Sometimes the most beautiful thing we can do is simply let ourselves be where we are. And surrender.
So this is my reminder to myself and maybe to you too:
You don’t have to have everything figured out right now.
*Celebrate how far you’ve come (note to self).
Take the next small step when you’re ready.
And until then… breathe. Rest. Let yourself be held. 🤍
A pause is not a failure.
