It’s just so hot in the office today
We Surprised an Entire Town. Here’s How: “You know what we should do?” Hallmark Media president Darren Abbott asked. “Create a moment. Let’s make the Merriest Christmas Town reveal special. Let’s surprise the town!” Easier said than done. But we did it. With over 1,300 towns competing and tens of thousands of votes cast, our marketing, brand, PR, social, and promo teams spent weeks working in secret with @karindoolin , executive director for the @carlinvillechamber Somehow, she kept the lid on. Carlinville thought we were coming to shoot a holiday photo for @midwestlivingmag (We let the magazine in on it, and they wrote a great story, 🔗 in comments) To make the reveal even sweeter, we secretly brought in four fan-favorite actors (Jonathan Bennett, Tamera Mowry-Housley, Brendan Penny, and Erin Cahill) via police escort on a Countdown to Christmas wrapped bus. And Carlinville showed up: Mayor Doug Downey, the high school marching band and cheer team, shop owners, and families galore. Programming head Michelle Vicary made the announcement and shared the best part: Carlinville will star in a 2027 @hallmarkchannel Countdown to Christmas movie, filmed right there in the new year, with locals cast as extras and walk-ons.
