THORACIC INLET
A compressed thoracic inlet limits arm mobility more than the shoulder blade ever will.
Biomechanics: The brachial plexus and subclavian vessels pass between the clavicle and the first rib. Tight scalenes and a depressed first rib narrow that corridor and compress the neural structures. The client feels arm weakness and tingling that worsens when the shoulder is lifted. You treat the rotator cuff and scapular stabilizers, yet the restriction originates in the inlet above. The shoulder girdle compensates for the neural drag by stiffening, so every movement remains limited. Opening the inlet restores both blood flow and nerve conduction without touching the shoulder itself.
Recommendation: Release the scalenes and elevate the first rib before working the rotator cuff. Clearing the thoracic inlet removes the compression that forces the shoulder to guard. #thoracicinlet #brachialplexus #scalene #firstrib #rotatorcuff #manualtherapy #biomechanics #clinicalmassage #wildharmony #arm
