Said I wasn’t gone pull it but fuck it let me express my feelings…
On September 11, 2006, I walked into 107.5 WGCI with a microphone, a dream and a responsibility to represent the city that made me.
20 YEARS LATER…I’M STILL HERE.
Two decades of mornings. Two decades of laughs, arguments, interviews, community events—and most importantly, CHICAGO.
I’ve had the privilege of working alongside incredible co-workers, mentors and friends who taught me lessons about radio, entertainment, business and life.
I’ve met THOUSANDS of you at Sister Strut, Big Jam, Summer Jam, CPS schools, community events and countless station appearances.
I’ve interviewed artists at the grassroots level and watched them become superstars—Chance the Rapper, Cardi B, Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco and many more.
Share my platform with my comedic , brothers and sisters and always tried my best to give the voiceless a voice!
through everything, my mission has stayed the same:
REPRESENT CHICAGO.
The neighborhoods. The culture. The music. The sports. The laughs. The struggles. And especially THE PEOPLE.
I’ve always tried to give you the real Leon Rogers.
Am I for everybody? HELL NAW! 🤷🏿♂️
But somehow I’ve navigated 20 years in this crazy industry without turning into a complete weirdo…so I’m counting that as a WIN!
Special love and gratitude to Elroy Smith, Earl Jones, Matt Scarano , Kris Kelley (RIP), Derrick Brown johnny Glover, James Howard and Kashon Powell for believing in me and allowing me to use the airwaves of 107.5 WGCI to talk TO Chicago and Northwest Indiana—not AT you.
And to everybody who has ever listened, laughed, disagreed with me, called the station, came to an event, supported my comedy, took a picture or just yelled “LEON!” when you saw me somewhere…
THANK YOU.
I hope I’ve made my city proud.
20 years later…
STILL HERE.
STILL CHICAGO.
STILL ME.
STILL DESTINED.
STILL LEGEND.
Chicago, this 20 belongs to US.
STRENGTH & HONOR
Leon Rogers
