Freshly Dirty is difficult for me to write about as a sponsor, because at this point it feels almost ridiculous to call them one.
When we brought Indy States back last year, Alex Morton gave an extraordinary amount of himself to making it happen. He edited video, helped me write, helped coordinate things, answered questions, solved problems and stepped in wherever he saw something that needed done. A true friend at every turn.
A year later, what I’m most grateful for has very little to do with running a yo-yo contest. Since then, my friendship with Alex has only deepened.
Alex has stood beside me and defended me, even when doing so meant taking abuse himself. Everything about him is genuine. His integrity is something I strive to live up to. He's taught me how to be a better friend and a better person, simply through his presence and the way he chooses to act in the world.
And then there's Arthur Foley.
Arthur has taken the brand they built together and pushed it further than Alex ever imagined, without losing the grittiness, heart, and personality that made Freshly Dirty worth caring about in the first place.
That's why this year, we wouldn't accept Freshly Dirty's Gold Sponsor fee.
They're Gold because no amount of money could represent what they've already given us.
They're Gold because of the time, friendship, loyalty, work, and sacrifice they've given to this community.
They're Gold because of who they are.
We truly love this brand with all our hearts.
And perhaps nothing could be more fitting than Alex being the reigning Indiana State Champion. His name will forever be etched into the very first slot of the new Hoosier Cup, presented by Circle City YoYos. The first name on a new piece of Indiana yo-yo history belongs to someone who has already given so much to it.
Thank you—not just for what you do for the sport, but for who you are.
