There is a very real possibility that the 2026 Indiana State Yo-Yo Contest would not be happening without Bradd Collins.

I don’t mean that figuratively.

At a point when I badly needed stability, focus, and the space to keep this enormous project moving, Bradd gave me exactly that. He gave me room to work, organize, and keep building Indy States when I needed it most.

That changed everything.

Some things can be repaid with money. Others change the direction of your life. I don’t know that I can ever properly repay Bradd for what he did, but I can pay it forward:

The Indiana State Yo-Yo Contest is going to continue indefinitely.

And beginning this year, 2026, that promise has something physical attached to it:

The Hoosier Cup, presented by Circle City YoYos.

Every year, another Indiana champion will have their name added to it. Year after year, those names will accumulate until the Cup carries a history of its own. A permanent record of Indiana yo-yoing and the players who shaped it.

And Circle City isn’t exactly showing up quietly.

Bradd is bringing the crew, along with a release rooted in Indiana yo-yo history: an Indy States-exclusive Phoenix honoring Kyle Pearson, the most dominant champion our state has ever produced. Based on Kyle’s iconic Warbird design and finished in his signature brown-and-blue colorway, it feels less like a special edition and more like a tribute to Indiana yo-yo history.

And that represents what I love about Circle City.

The value is almost ridiculous.

Bradd has always seemed more interested in putting genuinely great yo-yos into people’s hands than squeezing every possible dollar out of them. Great yo-yos. Cool ideas. Indiana roots. People who genuinely care about the community.

That’s Circle City YoYos.

So calling them our Premier Yo-Yo Sponsor this year means something to me.

Bradd, thank you for the Phoenix. Thank you for the Hoosier Cup. Thank you for Circle City YoYos.

But more personally, thank you for supporting this contest—and supporting me—the way you have.

You helped ensure Indy States has a future far beyond this year.

Cheers to Circle City YoYos and the Indiana State Yo-Yo Contest.

Nick Brown has managed to pack serious food, 25 pinball machines, live music, local art, a rotating wall of taps, and the general quirkiness of Fountain Square under one roof, and somehow, the whole thing works!

First of all, Nick has real culinary chops, and you can see it all over the menu. Smash burgers are only the beginning. House-made chili, Thai curry chicken, corned beef, pulled pork, truffle mac and cheese, hand-breaded wings, weekend brunch, chicken and biscuits, steak and eggs—and then all the little things: ALL SCRATCH SAUCES!!!, pickled vegetables, confits, and details that tell you somebody in that kitchen actually understands food.

That matters to me. I cook. I care about feeding my friends and family, so I notice those things.

Nick does too.

And then you finish eating and go play pinball.

That’s WildFyre.

It’s ambitious without being pretentious. You can have a genuinely great meal, catch live music or an open mic, play pinball until your quarters disappear, or bring the whole family in for brunch and let the kids loose on the machines.

And I really want to emphasize that last part, because the word ā€œTapā€ might give some parents the wrong idea: WildFyre is very much a family-friendly establishment.

Kids are welcome. Their regular pinball tournaments are all ages. It’s the kind of place where a dad can enjoy a beer while his kid discovers why pinball machines have been stealing our money for generations.

That spirit means a lot to us.

Indy States has always been about creating a place where a six-year-old picking up a yo-yo for the first time can share a room with people who have been doing this for decades.

It’s supposed to be fun, a little strange, welcoming to families, and built around something people become completely obsessed with for reasons outsiders may never fully understand.

Come to think of it, a family-owned restaurant with great food and 25 pinball machines probably understands us better than most.

Due to Fountain Square construction this year, WRTV reports that lunch business had fallen around 80%.

This absolute treasure has to be preserved, which is why we're so proud that they're one of our two premiere sponsors. taken in WildFyre Tap by @indystates

Freshly Dirty is difficult for me to write about as a sponsor, because at this point it feels almost ridiculous to call them one.

When we brought Indy States back last year, Alex Morton gave an extraordinary amount of himself to making it happen. He edited video, helped me write, helped coordinate things, answered questions, solved problems and stepped in wherever he saw something that needed done. A true friend at every turn.

A year later, what I’m most grateful for has very little to do with running a yo-yo contest. Since then, my friendship with Alex has only deepened.

Alex has stood beside me and defended me, even when doing so meant taking abuse himself. Everything about him is genuine. His integrity is something I strive to live up to. He's taught me how to be a better friend and a better person, simply through his presence and the way he chooses to act in the world.

And then there's Arthur Foley.

Arthur has taken the brand they built together and pushed it further than Alex ever imagined, without losing the grittiness, heart, and personality that made Freshly Dirty worth caring about in the first place.

That's why this year, we wouldn't accept Freshly Dirty's Gold Sponsor fee.

They're Gold because no amount of money could represent what they've already given us.

They're Gold because of the time, friendship, loyalty, work, and sacrifice they've given to this community.

They're Gold because of who they are.

We truly love this brand with all our hearts.

And perhaps nothing could be more fitting than Alex being the reigning Indiana State Champion. His name will forever be etched into the very first slot of the new Hoosier Cup, presented by Circle City YoYos. The first name on a new piece of Indiana yo-yo history belongs to someone who has already given so much to it.

Thank you—not just for what you do for the sport, but for who you are. taken in Irving Theater by @indystates

Sometimes sponsors are special because of what they bring to Indy States. Sometimes they’re special because of the people behind them. Featherspin is both.

Jacob Lundak and I first met at UYYC, and honestly, I don't even remember what we talked about first. I remember seeing this absolutely incredible yo-yo case sitting in front of me and thinking, Who made that? I had to know.

That curiosity turned into a friendship, and over the years I've gotten to watch Jacob's creativity grow into some seriously incredible work. He's one of those people who can look at something and see an entirely different possibility in it. That's true whether he's designing artwork, building something, throwing, or just obsessing over some tiny detail that the rest of us probably wouldn't have noticed.

And now Featherspin is bringing something to Indiana States that makes me genuinely excited.

Featherspin is releasing the very first run of the Ibis, and the first edition is an INDY STATES EXCLUSIVE. That's a pretty wild thing to get to say.

The Ibis isn't just another yo-yo showing up on a prize table. It's the beginning of something new for Featherspin, and Indy States gets to be part of that beginning! I can't think of a better place for it.

Featherspin has always felt like the kind of company I want around this contest: creative, weird, personal, and genuinely invested in the people who make this little community what it is. And knowing the people behind it makes it mean that much more.

Jacob, thank you for believing in Indy States and for bringing something this special to our contest.

And to the whole Featherspin crew: thank you for being the gold standard.
I genuinely cannot wait for everyone to see what you've been working on.

YoyoSam supported us last year in a huge way. Most sponsors give yoyos, which is what makes these contests so great, but YoyoSam has always added cash to the mix and it's kept our little state contest going. YoyoSam is reliable in every way a company can be. Their shipping process is the fastest in the game, every time. In addition, they've always been there for us organizers to make these events possible.

They were one of the big reasons our 2025 resurrection happened. So, we want to take a moment to really thank YoyoSam for their dedication to our craft.

I also want to briefly mention my very first yoyo sponsor way back in 2007, Spintastics. They supplied me with a lot of diabolos and yoyos over the years and I really could not have been where I am now without Dale Oliver's support and Stu Branoff's mentorship for my career in the show business. I'm really proud of their achievement with these yoyos their new bi-metal and the Illuminate. The Illuminate is my new favorite fingerspin mono-metal. The shape reminds me of a widened low wall G5, if you're old enough to know what that is.

We're so proud and honored to have YoyoSam in our corner. We can't wait to see what we're going to build together. taken in Irving Theater by @indystates

Today, we want to thank Dert yoyos for their unrelenting support for the past several years.

Russell Andert is a force of nature—a powerhouse of creativity, experience, and technical skill when it comes to yoyo design. In fact, I can rightly say he's my favorite yoyo designer of all time. Even before I knew who he was, the Dert was my favorite yoyo for decades, so it's apropos that Round Spinning Objects feature his yoyos because it's some of the best artwork I've ever seen in the yoyo industry.

If you own a yoyo company, take notes because the creativity and marketing are the best in the business. Visit their store site and you'll see what I mean.

Thank you, Russell, from all of us in Indiana from bottom of our hearts. taken in Irving Theater by @indystates
