Some think it’s radical that at “our age” we take selfies… and god forbid, post them!
The radical act isn’t taking the selfies.
It’s refusing to immediately tell yourself why you look shit in them.
I found these photos from last year and my first thought was: Fuck, I love these.
Why are we still so uncomfortable saying that?
Appreciate the woman staring back at you.
Take the selfies. Keep the ones you love. Look at them.
And when you think you look hot?
Say it.
It isn’t arrogance.
It isn’t vanity.
It’s liking yourself.
You’re allowed to.
I reckon we could all do with a bit more of that.

I have had a lot of fun taking my weekly close up black and white selfies and posting them out here on Thursdays. I find that I am much more comfortable taking them alone, with no one watching me, than I would be sitting in front of a photographer. I am less inhibited and much more willing to try different poses and expressions. I love deleting the howlers. And the outcome is far more genuine, too, more the real me.
