Smart irrigation, real conversations. Chris Manchuck spent time with the Denver Water and CPS team going in depth on #efficiency covering proactive monitoring, better data, and #smartercontrollers, and how they add up to real water savings.

What movie makes you cry? 😭

The Elephant Man (1980), directed by David Lynch, tells the heartbreaking true story of Joseph Merrick, a man living in Victorian London who suffers from severe physical deformities and is treated as a spectacle because of his appearance.

After being discovered in a traveling freak show by surgeon Frederick Treves, Merrick is brought to London Hospital, where he slowly begins to experience kindness and respect for the first time. Beneath the face that frightens strangers is a gentle, intelligent man who longs for something most people take for granted: to be treated like a human being.

Starring John Hurt in one of the most powerful performances of his career, alongside Anthony Hopkins, the film is a deeply moving portrait of cruelty, compassion, and human dignity. Shot in haunting black and white, it captures the darkness of a society that judges people by what they see rather than who they are.

The Elephant Man is a painful reminder that the real ugliness in this world is often found in the way people treat one another. More than four decades later, its message still feels just as important.

Some men find it difficult to throw away old or seemingly useless items because they see potential future value in them. A broken appliance might contain useful parts, an old cable could come in handy, and a random piece of wood might eventually solve a problem. This tendency can be influenced by practical experience, sentimental attachment, dislike of waste, and the satisfaction of repairing things instead of buying replacements. However, it isn’t exclusive to men.
Psychologically, this behavior is linked to loss aversion and the endowment effect, which make people reluctant to discard things they already own. The possibility of needing an item someday can feel more important than the inconvenience of storing it for years. That’s why some garages contain mysterious collections of screws, cables, broken electronics, and wooden planks. A man might not have touched something in 15 years, but the day he finally needs it, he’ll consider the entire collection justified.
