Yesterday was overwhelming. The show at LAVC has been many years in the making. I was able to perform with the brilliant artist Maya Mackrandilal in a ceremonial blessing of the exhibition. Goddesses and Monsters Re-Imagined: a Racket of Banshees started out of an online consciousness raising Zoom session during the global pandemic. We talked about creating our own belief systems to protect ourselves from the virus, from the injustices of racial violence and our shared fears and vulnerabilities as women trying to protect ourselves and our families. Member Carolyn Castano conceived the show and with alot of shared collaborative writing wirh Maya Mackrandilal and Dr. Anke Theresa Shulz as well as Annie Wharton who first put us up online during quarantine as a virtual exhibition with LADIES’ ROOM. Four cities later here we our today. From CUNY Potsdam Art Museum to LAVC the show and the artists stayed true to the concepts evolving with us over time. Margie Schnibbe led a video series first at Wonzimer Gallery now on view at the Wignall Museum of Contemporary Art. So much came together. I am so grateful to all our members and the community of curators who had faith in this giant show. The directors of spaces Amy Swartele, Jenene Nagy, Roman Stollenwork, and Carey Watters all trusted the vision. Finally a very special thank you to my co-founder and the woman who shot these wonderful photos Allison Stewart. Allison thank you for always listening to my crazy ideas and saying, “ How can we do that?” then steering us toward organization and shared governance. Feeling so grateful for the community feminism created. A Racket of Banshees: Goddesses and Monsters Re-Imagined
