Alaska to Oklahoma Itinerary: Part One | Swipe for more details 👉
🚙 ~320 miles driven
⏰ ~6-7 hours of driving
We kicked off our cross-country move with the first stretch of the ALCAN, making our way from Anchorage to Tok. We left MUCH later than originally intended, which made this drive feel a lot longer than 6 hours
A few things we learned:
• Road construction led to lane closures and made even the small amounts of traffic we encountered very time consuming. Definitely recommend getting an early start so you have an extra cushion of time.
• Cell service was very spotty so download maps ahead of time.
• Buy your snacks and drinks before leaving Anchorage! Food is so much more expensive as the drive goes on.
🚙 ~390 miles
⏰ ~7-8 hours
We made it to Canada! We actually got a decent start to our morning the second day and it was a good thing too because by then little G man was already over his car seat so he needed lots of nursing breaks.
A few things to note:
• Have your passport and travel documents ready when you get to the border. You’ll likely be asked if you have anything to declare and they may inspect your vehicle/trailer. Thankfully we had an easy time of it and were through the border within about 10-15 minutes.
• There’s a rest area at the Yukon sign before you hit the border crossing. This is a great place for a quick break, photo opp, and making sure all of your documents are in order.
• Canada does require that your pets have a health certificate done within 10 days of entry and it must include proof of rabies vaccination. Some border agents won’t ask for the paperwork but you can be denied entry if you do not have it when requested.
• The roads immediately before and after the border crossing are TERRIBLE. They are gravel roads with lots of potholes so be prepared for a bumpy ride.
This was a long day but the scenery was amazing!
🚙 ~275 miles
⏰ ~5-6 hours
With a baby, a teenager, and two dogs in tow some shorter days like this one were so needed. We probably could have pushed further but we would have been a lot more grumpy 😂 Plus the Sign Post Forest in Watson Lake is a must-see stop!
