Creating an EverWild Childhood 🤎
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
EverWild childhood began with a simple realization: I didn’t want motherhood to happen exclusively indoors. I didn’t want my son’s childhood happening in the confines of four walls.

I want my son to grow up climbing over logs, splashing in puddles, collecting rocks, and experiencing the world with all of his senses. I want him to have a childhood filled with fresh air, curiosity, adventure, and connection.

Not because I expect or want everyday to be perfect. But because I believe time in nature, good literature, and slow moments help create the kind of childhood worth remembering. And they help me be the kind of mother I can be proud of.

That’s what an EverWild childhood is all about 🤎 by @everwildchildhood

Saying goodbye to Alaska and the life we built here is such a bittersweet moment. This season of life brought so much healing, friendship, and community. It also brought us our son, which forever changed the way I view the world 🤎

But part of our family’s EverWild philosophy is that we bloom where we’re planted. No matter where we call home, we’ll keep exploring, keep slowing down, and keep creating an outdoor childhood for our son.

From Alaska to Oklahoma, I’m excited to discover new places and make new memories together. Here’s to the next chapter 🌾 by @everwildchildhood

One year of breastfeeding 🫶🏻

A year of nursing on trails, in the car, on the beach, under trees, in the airport, and all the other little places life took us. A year of learning to trust my instincts, listen to my baby, and slow down enough to give him what he needed, when he needed it, even if it seemed unconventional to some.

In the beginning, breastfeeding was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. If I’m being honest, I thought about quitting several times. But despite the tears and the exhaustion and the pain, it somehow became this peaceful moment between mother and son. Making it to the one year mark is one of things I’m most proud of in this life.

One year down but the journey isn’t over yet 🥂🤎

I can’t believe we have a one-year-old 🥹🥹

We tried to do a photo shoot for his first birthday but turns out the balloon was a tad bit bigger than him 😂 He is still cute as heck though 🥰

Alaska to Oklahoma Itinerary: Part two | Swipe for details 👉

🚙 ~430 miles
⏰ ~6.5-7 hours

Back in the USA 🇺🇸

We managed to hit the border crossing at just the right time so had very little wait time. We stayed the night in Helena, which is the capital of Montana, and had hoped to do some cool sightseeing there but a pretty bad storm kept us hotel bound for the evening instead. Still very happy to be back in the states 💙

🚙 ~330 miles
⏰ ~5-6 hours

We originally planned to push past Sheridan but we were running from another storm so eventually decided to call it a night rather than pulling a trailer through the rain. That also meant we didn’t really have time to pull off for any sightseeing. I would really love to do this drive without being on any kind of deadline so we can really enjoy the sights 🤎

🚙 ~380 miles
⏰ ~6-7 hours

We stopped at the world’s smallest Love’s station this day. I wish I had gotten a photo but it was so incredibly small! There were only two pumps and a raggedy subway. I didn’t even know they came that small 😂

But the weather was much better today so we were able to take lots of nursing breaks for the little one ☺️

Finally made it to Oklahoma!! Day eleven was our longest day at ~500 miles and about 9 hours of drive time. Honestly it was a lot but it was worth a rough day just to be able to sleep in the next morning 😴 by @everwildchildhood

Alaska to Oklahoma Itinerary: Part One | Swipe for more details 👉

🚙 ~320 miles driven
⏰ ~6-7 hours of driving

We kicked off our cross-country move with the first stretch of the ALCAN, making our way from Anchorage to Tok. We left MUCH later than originally intended, which made this drive feel a lot longer than 6 hours 🫩

A few things we learned:
• Road construction led to lane closures and made even the small amounts of traffic we encountered very time consuming. Definitely recommend getting an early start so you have an extra cushion of time.
• Cell service was very spotty so download maps ahead of time.
• Buy your snacks and drinks before leaving Anchorage! Food is so much more expensive as the drive goes on.

🚙 ~390 miles
⏰ ~7-8 hours

We made it to Canada! We actually got a decent start to our morning the second day and it was a good thing too because by then little G man was already over his car seat so he needed lots of nursing breaks.

A few things to note:
• Have your passport and travel documents ready when you get to the border. You’ll likely be asked if you have anything to declare and they may inspect your vehicle/trailer. Thankfully we had an easy time of it and were through the border within about 10-15 minutes.
• There’s a rest area at the Yukon sign before you hit the border crossing. This is a great place for a quick break, photo opp, and making sure all of your documents are in order.
• Canada does require that your pets have a health certificate done within 10 days of entry and it must include proof of rabies vaccination. Some border agents won’t ask for the paperwork but you can be denied entry if you do not have it when requested.
• The roads immediately before and after the border crossing are TERRIBLE. They are gravel roads with lots of potholes so be prepared for a bumpy ride.

This was a long day but the scenery was amazing!

🚙 ~275 miles
⏰ ~5-6 hours

With a baby, a teenager, and two dogs in tow some shorter days like this one were so needed. We probably could have pushed further but we would have been a lot more grumpy 😂 Plus the Sign Post Forest in Watson Lake is a must-see stop!

A forest made up of stories from all over the world 🌲🪧

Join us for one of my favorite stops on our cross-country move from Alaska to Oklahoma. We’ve been cooped up in the car so much and a walk through the Sign Post Forest was exactly the break we needed.

It was a good week 🥰

I’m trying to be more intentional about having screen-free experiences both for my own mental health and so I can model good habits for my son. This is a little glimpse at moments from my week that helped me stay off my phone and engaged with real life 🫶🏻
