“Daysleeper,” the first single from Up, was released on this day in 1998. The video, directed by the Snorri brothers, according to Michael in an interview with Q magazine in 1998 took on a “really druggy, really great look.” In the same interview with Q, Mike said: “I think it’s about the sort of alien nature of a night shift. The weird lighting, the fluorescent lights that you find and the isolation of working the graveyard shift—how it screws up your sleep patterns and that sort of thing, and I think that’s the main image we’re trying to get across.”
