Shielding protesters from Zionist and police violence is not a crime! Graduate student and teacher Amed Galo Lopez has successfully defended himself against expulsion from UCLA, which manipulated and violated its own conduct processes to target him for the last 2 years. UCLA tried to punish Galo for physically protecting his students at a 2024 vigil with a plywood board as UC police shot rubber bullets and attacked protesters, including Galo himself, with batons. As Galo’s advisor, @rdgkelley, commented, “There are no criminal charges against Galo. He harmed no one. It was the UCPD that beat him while kettling a peaceful demonstration on campus.” He was also protecting students from Zionist agitators, who had threatened death against pro-Palestinian protesters that day and launched fireworks in their encampment months earlier. On May 29, 2026, the Student Conduct Committee Hearing Panel cleared Galo of all charges against him. On Thursday, September 17, the Dean demanded to hear his case again — this time, including video evidence that was not submitted in time for his previous hearing and was therefore rightfully excluded. UCLA’s reopening of Galo’s case violated basic notions of fairness, double jeopardy principles in disciplinary settings, and due process. As of October 5, Galo is now cleared of his charges and can return to educating, protecting, and fighting for his students who are fighting for a free Palestine. As @rdgkelley said, this is a win for the entire student movement! Galo was represented by Palestine Legal attorney network member @abulaith08.
