Amid Russia’s ongoing aggression against Ukraine, Kyiv’s biggest and most iconic art festival, GogolFest has returned. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, it has mostly taken place abroad in various formats, and now it is finally making a big homecoming.
Highlighting the significance of this event, Vladyslav Troitsky, the founder and director of GogolFest, said that Ukraine remains “one of the last islands of real democracy and true freedom” in the world. The return of such a major multidisciplinary contemporary art festival amid wartime only underscores this.
