Dreadfuls by A. Rae Dunlap
…
London, 1888. Committed to the Whitechapel Hall Reform School for “incurable delinquency” 15-year-old Adelaide “Dell” Morton is a precocious, defiant misfit. In an unlikely stroke of luck, she’s found a kindred spirit in her poised, perfectionist roommate, Pippa. Their obsession is only further fueled by the Jack the Ripper murders blazing a trail of terror throughout London’s seediest streets . . . right outside Whitechapel Hall’s front door.

I had such high hopes for this book, because A. Rae Dunlap did such an incredible job with The Resurrectionist. But everything I loved in the debut was sorely missing in this book. What the characters lacked in detail we made up for in their interpersonal relationships. Watching Poppy and Dell become friends over time as they smoked outside overlooking the city were some of my favorite scenes.
