POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
I’ve been a little quiet here lately. We welcomed the arrival of Calvin, our newest little addition to the family on April 18th, 2026 so I’ve been drowning in dirty diapers and milk stained clothes, trying to catch up on sleep every chance I can get and definitely not picking up a single book. But I wouldn’t trade any of it for anything. 🥹 by @allysonalwaysreads

It’s been awhile since I’ve done a meet the bookstagrammer and I’ve got quite a few new followers - so here’s some fun facts about me.
…
- I love hand emojis: 🫶🏼, 🤙🏼, ✌🏼, 🙌🏼
- I take my coffee with cream and no sugar. My current fav is Chobani’s Cookie Dough creamer but I hear there’s a Cookie Butter flavor that may be the new crowned favorite. My favorite cookies are Snickerdoodle, and while we are talking about food I think I could eat buffalo chicken flavored foods for every meal every day and never get sick of it.
- I thrive in the heat so I love the summer and the beach, but I also love a snow day and now that I think of it, there’s something about a rainy fall day and a thunderstorm. It’s for this reason that I don’t think I’ll ever leave New England.
- I will 100% judge a book by its cover, a wine by its label, and a movie by its poster. This may be due to the fact that my full time job is as a graphic designer, but I’ve always loved art and design. So who knows?
- I mostly read fantasy and Sci-Fi, but I dabble in romance and I’ll read a thriller but I won’t keep the trophy on my bookshelf because for me it loses its re-readability once I know the plot-twist ending.

An Education in Malice by ST Gibson
…
On her first day of class, Laura Sheridan is thrust into an intense academic rivalry with the beautiful and enigmatic Carmilla. Together, they are drawn into the confidence of their demanding poetry professor, De Lafontaine, who holds her own dark obsession with Carmilla. Tangled in a sinister game of politics, bloodthirsty professors and magic, Laura and Carmilla must decide how much they are willing to sacrifice in their ruthless pursuit of knowledge.
…
I wish that De Lafontaine was a bit more fleshed out as the book went on. She started to take a back seat to Laura and Camilla even though her character was still very important to the storyline. There’s also a section in the middle where the plot starts to drag and I began to lose interest, but after a few chapters it picks up again. taken in Boston, Massachusetts by @allysonalwaysreads

October TBR
…
This might be the first spooky season where I have a stack of spooky books to read! Not gonna lie I wouldn’t have put Piranesi as a fall read but I saw someone recommend it and I have it so on the TBR it goes! I’m also dying to get to Dead Beat but the first half of my month is travel heavy so I think I’m going to close out spooky season with it so I can really enjoy it.

September was mostly ebooks and audiobooks so I’m hoping to get back into physical books in October. There really is something about a physical book. I also read quite a bit of romance and very little fantasy/sci fi which is out of the norm for me! It was a good month with an average of 4 stars. Overall I’d say it was a good month! taken in Boston, Massachusetts by @allysonalwaysreads

Off to the Races by Elsie Silver
…
Vaughn Harding heads from the city to small-town Ruby Creek, intent on revitalizing his family’s ranch and the scandal attached to its name in the wake of his grandfather’s unexpected passing. Billie is talented. Whip-smart. Sassy. And so damn tempting. She and Vaughn clash from the moment they meet, and in a small town, on an even smaller farm, it’s hard to keep their distance.
…
There was a good balance of plot and sex and I felt like overall the characters had a fun arc I was invested in seeing until the end. Especially Vaughn. I loved that Billie stood her ground with him. And Violet was such a charming side character! And Hank! Okay, to be honest I really did love all the characters. taken in Boston, Massachusetts by @allysonalwaysreads

Punk’n Heads by Nicole Goux & Dave Baker
…
Hannah Lipsky isn’t sure what’s happening. She dreamed of becoming a fine art painter, but after breaking up with her girlfriend, she’s suddenly dropped out of art school, moved into a flophouse, and gotten roped into singing in a campy horror-punk band. With costumes. To make things even more complicated, she might be hooking up with her housemate/bandmate/high school crush, Jerry.
…
I really enjoyed the artwork of this book. Each chapter being a different color was so fun, although I’m not sure if there was a deeper reason for that or not…I liked the premise initially and even the plot was interesting to a point. But the characters all lacked any depth or emotional development that makes a graphic novel fun to read. taken in Boston, Massachusetts by @allysonalwaysreads

Love in the Time of Serial Killers by Alicia Thompson
…
PhD candidate Phoebe Walsh has always been obsessed with true crime. She’s even analyzing the genre in her dissertation—if she can manage to finish writing it. It doesn’t help that she’s low-key convinced that her new neighbor, Sam Dennings, is a serial killer (he may dress business casual by day, but at night he’s clearly up to something).
…
This was a fine romance. It was enjoyable and I liked the characters for the most part. I think I actually was more invested in the sibling relationship between Phoebe and her brother more than I was in the romantic relationship between Phoebe and Sam. The sibling conflict was more dynamic, more interesting, and had a better conclusion than two people just falling in love and being unable to admit that to eachother. taken in Boston, Massachusetts by @allysonalwaysreads

Fall Over You by Dani Galliaro
…
The story follows carefree party girl and best friend’s sister Becca Martin alongside a single dad and auto shop owner who clashes with her sunny demeanor. To save their struggling local businesses, they agree to a marriage of convenience and convince the town they have fallen for each other.
…
Miscommunication who?! While the tension in the beginning of this book runs deep between Becca and Tyler, that doesn’t stop them from diving into their past right from the beginning and talking through the issues they have with eachother. And that might just be my favorite part about this book, because that continues throughout the entire novel. Tyler and Becca are both characters I wish I knew in real life, they’re both flawed and funny and seem like so much fun to be around! taken in Boston, Massachusetts by @allysonalwaysreads

Dreadfuls by A. Rae Dunlap
…
London, 1888. Committed to the Whitechapel Hall Reform School for “incurable delinquency” 15-year-old Adelaide “Dell” Morton is a precocious, defiant misfit. In an unlikely stroke of luck, she’s found a kindred spirit in her poised, perfectionist roommate, Pippa. Their obsession is only further fueled by the Jack the Ripper murders blazing a trail of terror throughout London’s seediest streets . . . right outside Whitechapel Hall’s front door.
…
I had such high hopes for this book, because A. Rae Dunlap did such an incredible job with The Resurrectionist. But everything I loved in the debut was sorely missing in this book. What the characters lacked in detail we made up for in their interpersonal relationships. Watching Poppy and Dell become friends over time as they smoked outside overlooking the city were some of my favorite scenes. taken in Boston, Massachusetts by @allysonalwaysreads

The Housewife by Natalie Barelli
…
Jodie always dreamed of being a housewife. And after a whirlwind romance, she marries renowned psychologist Dr. Roy Davies. When Jodie learns Deborah, Roys first wife, became a recluse before death, she begins to suspect Roy was behind it. Jodie knows she should go to the police, but that would require revealing her own secret. A secret that could destroy her.
…
There was not one page where I could confidently say I know who killed Deborah - even as we got to the end of the book I was still second-guessing my guess. And I have to say, Natalie Barelli does a good job of balancing all her threads and story lines. There’s a lot going on in this book, especially as you get towards the end, but that last chapter ties everything up so neatly. taken in Boston, Massachusetts by @allysonalwaysreads
