Today, we cross the threshold of the equinox 🍂. It’s an invitation to begin our descent into the darker half of the year and into the mystery the unknown holds for us.

In Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey, the Call to Adventure acts as our invitation into the unknown and marks the beginning of our transformational journey, stepping into the life calling us forward.

It begins when we sense ourselves being drawn beyond the familiar and toward something new.

The Call can take many forms: A relationship shift, creative impulse, spiritual investigation, a career change.

Our unconscious mind may recognize something familiar and instinctual within the invitation before our conscious mind fully understands it.

We feel the possibility of who we might become if we answer the Call.

And yet, the Call rarely aligns neatly with the life we are already living. This is what makes the threshold both frightening and enlivening.

Sometimes, we aren’t ready to listen. Campbell calls this the Refusal of the Call. But the Call often comes again. And again. Sometimes with increasing force, until it becomes harder to ignore.

Eventually, the journey asks us to approach the threshold and to anchor into who we are and leap forward into the unknown.

The equinox is an invitation to enter the mystery.

To descend into the fertile darkness, where we cannot yet see exactly what comes next, but can begin to listen for what is calling.

What is calling you toward adventure right now?
