🎉 RETREAT ANNOUNCEMENT 🎉

There are moments in life when something deeper begins to call.

The unknown calls us — not because we are lost, but because something in us is ready to return.

Sometimes, to hear that call, we need to step outside of our ordinary lives.

This is the journey at the heart of Answer Your Call to Adventure, a retreat in the mountains outside San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, weaving together Kundalini Yoga, mythic wisdom, ritual, and nature-based inquiry.

The Hero’s Journey will be our map, guiding us as we step beyond the familiar and meet the wisdom and guides waiting for us just beyond the threshold of our daily lives.

Together, we will return...

to moving with greater joy
to listening more deeply

So that the parts of ourselves that feel most alive,
most instinctive,
and wildly free
have space to return home.

If you are called forward to this journey, I invite you to join me.

Beloved friends, thank you for reading this as I bare my soul to you. This is my first post to Instagram in 6 years since departing from social media while living in Argentina.

My journey into Kundalini energy began with repeated visions of snakes – myself as a snake – crawling deep within fields of soil. I was underground, slithering, close to nature. In this space of unknown, I began working with @blackgirltantra 🙏.

In my women's circle in Big Sur, during nearly every shamanic drum journey, this vision emerged. I was healing from the devastation of a partnership coming to completion, of my former life vision burning down and facing a call to rise and reach for something greater.

This was my conscious beginning of working with Kundalini energy.

I turned to this energy and faith in God to mend myself, strip myself, and rebirth into a more conscious version of who I was.

Moving from self-centered to Spirit-centered.

Then, while working in the field of climate change – my vow to protect mother earth – I began having mysterious migraines. Soon, I discover my home had toxic mold. And so another healing journey began.

In this space of healing, Kundalini Yoga wove into my path. I signed up for a Kundalini teacher training as a gift to myself while still in my climate job.

The training deepened. The more I learned, the more I felt I was coming home to a lost part of myself that childhood developmental trauma had barried. The teacher. But stepping onto that path felt daunting.

A month later, the Universe made the choice for me when I was laid off from my fancy job.

Today, I am here as a wounded healer, a seeker, a student, a teacher.

I am humble to these womxn (and many not mentioned) who have stewarded me in this re-homing of my soul's purpose.

As I continue my trainings in yoga therapy, Kundalini, polyvagal theory, trauma-informed yoga, and so much more, I am in gratitude and awe ❤️. Thank you. 🙏 by @alisonvedyoga

La Loba. The Bone Woman. The One Who Knows.

As we gather in the days when the veil is said to grow thin, this workshop turns us toward the story of La Loba to listen for our own instinctual knowing, the parts of ourselves that may have been buried or forgotten, though never lost, and ripe for reclamation.

Led by @alisonvedyoga , Bay Area trauma-sensitive Kundalini Yoga teacher, this workshop draws upon La Loba and Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey to explore what is indestructible in our original selves, our instinct, intuition, creativity, and inner knowing, and what it means to call these parts home.

We’ll bring this inquiry into the body through a 60-minute trauma-sensitive Kundalini Yoga practice, weaving movement, breathwork, mantra, and meditation.

This workshop is a journey of remembering what is essential, gathering what has been lost, and reclaiming the wild within.

Who gets to heal? And at what cost?

For far too long, it has become normalized for wellness retreats to operate in international destinations while remaining disconnected from the communities that call those places home.

Retreats may draw upon the land, culture, traditions, and healing modalities of a region, while the people from those communities are often excluded from the very experiences being offered and that their culture birthed, doulaed into existence.

As I build my retreat in San Miguel de Allende, I’m trying, one step at a time, to do things differentl and to explore what greater access, reciprocity, and integrity can look like within the wellness industry.

There’s a decision every leader faces when building something: Do I wait until I’m profitable to build in impact, or do I embed it into the model from day one?

For me, that decision was a no-brainer.

Impact had to be there from the beginning.

I’m grateful to Savant Magazine for sharing the story of some of the ways we’re working to make this retreat more accessible to the local community.

I'm calling on other retreat leaders to step forward and make shifts to how they operate to be more inclusive. We must be the change we wish to see in the world. taken in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato by @alisonvedyoga

It is uncanny how, when we step beyond the familiar and into the unknown, the universe steps forward to meet us, offering the guides, mentors, and supernatural aid that help the soul find its way toward the life it is being called to live. by @alisonvedyoga

If you want to change your reality, you must first be willing to see the reality before you.

As long as we remain in denial of what is, our suffering continues.

We see this moment again and again in myth and fairy tale: the spell must break. The enchantment must lift so the hero/ heroine can awaken.

Sometimes we wake ourselves. Sometimes life shakes us awake. And suddenly, we can see what was there all along.

This awakening can be painful. Acceptance does not mean that we like what we see, approve of it, or choose to remain in it. It means we stop fighting the truth of what is.

And from there, something becomes possible: choice.

We cannot change what we are unwilling to see.

Acceptance comes first. Change begins when we recognize what is.

What truth in your life are you being asked to see and accept before something can change? I'd love to hear from you.

Ancient myths act as a blueprint for conscious awakening. They remind us that transformation often begins with a Call to explore something new. It's a call we feel in our bones.

We feel the seeds of transformation within us stir as a longing.

A sense that the life we have been living is no longer the whole story of our potential.

But in our fast-moving culture that pulls us to look outward and fuel our days with distraction, it can be difficult to hear what is asking to emerge.

Answering the Call the Adventure sometimes means stepping away from the familiar long enough to hear what is ready to awaken and bloom. 🪷

My January retreat, Answer Your Call to Adventure, creates space for that listening.

For five days, we’ll step outside the momentum of ordinary life and into the mythic landscape of the journey, supported by Kundalini Yoga, nature, ritual, cultural immersion, and the timeless wisdom of myth.

This is a space to listen more deeply.

To meet the parts of yourself asking to be known.

To get clear on what is calling you forward.

And to gather the inner resources to cross the threshold into what comes next.

Perhaps the journey has already begun.

Today, we cross the threshold of the equinox 🍂. It’s an invitation to begin our descent into the darker half of the year and into the mystery the unknown holds for us.

In Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey, the Call to Adventure acts as our invitation into the unknown and marks the beginning of our transformational journey, stepping into the life calling us forward.

It begins when we sense ourselves being drawn beyond the familiar and toward something new.

The Call can take many forms: A relationship shift, creative impulse, spiritual investigation, a career change.

Our unconscious mind may recognize something familiar and instinctual within the invitation before our conscious mind fully understands it.

We feel the possibility of who we might become if we answer the Call.

And yet, the Call rarely aligns neatly with the life we are already living. This is what makes the threshold both frightening and enlivening.

Sometimes, we aren’t ready to listen. Campbell calls this the Refusal of the Call. But the Call often comes again. And again. Sometimes with increasing force, until it becomes harder to ignore.

Eventually, the journey asks us to approach the threshold and to anchor into who we are and leap forward into the unknown.

The equinox is an invitation to enter the mystery.

To descend into the fertile darkness, where we cannot yet see exactly what comes next, but can begin to listen for what is calling.

What is calling you toward adventure right now?
