Hate to burst your bubble but…

All those “happy looking” dogs, are actually anxious AF!

Anxiety often looks like excitement - lots of movement, a smiling panty face, and often a clingy/affectionate dog - and people think it’s a happy dog.

But ya, that’s not happiness, it’s stress.

Stress is disregulation in the body.

And if you’ve ever lived in fight or flight, you know how unpleasant it is.

A calm dog is a regulated dog.

And a regulated dog is happy because they aren’t in constant stress.

That’s why I correct for panting and give my dog the double down command when she does

@yourfavouritedogtrainer…you mentioned that anxious dogs do this. Is it exclusive to a generally anxious dog or, if we see our generally non-anxious dog doing this, we should take note because it means they are feeling anxious in that moment/scenario etc? Can you provide additional recommended material to read in support of this view so we are better informed? Thanks!

How about this ? He came , sit , and leaned on his own and was wagging his tail in this situation.
