Jace doesn’t really care about his 📚 book 🫠

But I’m 99.999% sure he cares about the time I spend with him, guiding him through this crazy, scary world.
And that means everything. 💕

He’s like, can I have the 🧀 now Mama? 😆

Packing summer away 😭
Boards washed down and deflated. Patios rolled up until next spring.
I have a bad habit of trying to hold on to summer too long (hoping for last fire or another paddle) and then getting caught with a storm warning and having to quickly disassemble everything with less care that I’d hoped.
So this year we got proactive and grabbed a sunny day to wrap up the summer memories properly.

The girls 😅
Xoco’s fast. Lulu has her younger age and determination on her side 😬
Recall is everything.

Jace 😭🩷
I was hesitant to put him on the board because if you know Jace you know he’s a super skittish and fearful dog when it comes to most things in life outside his home.
He likes routine and consistency. New places and people and things are stressful for him. But stress builds resistance (and as my friend and dog trainer Zofia says—this is a resilience building exercise).
I wholeheartedly agree. If he really hates something that’s different, but I think he found this both stressful and novel.
He got on the board with no push.
I just pointed and asked him to come. He did, hesitantly, but this dog’s trust in me is incredible.
While we were out there he spent a good amount of time watching the bottom of the ocean floor as we paddled.
Once I pulled up to shore I told him he could get off and he didn’t need to be asked again. As he trotted over the beach to the house I stayed back with the board and he turned around and returned to me. I knew than he was fine.
He was actually pretty proud of himself🥹
A little push outside the comfort zone is a good thing. I’m almost certain the next time he’ll be more confident, knowing what’s to come.
If he really hates it, that’s okay too. He can stay in his comfort zone and watch us from the window. But I really think he likes to be included. 🥰

A trailer for my new book
𝕋𝕙𝕚𝕤 𝔽𝕣𝕚𝕖𝕟𝕕𝕤𝕙𝕚𝕡 ℝ𝕖𝕢𝕦𝕚𝕣𝕖𝕤 𝔻𝕠𝕘𝕤.

While it has officially been published it takes a while to reach booksellers around the world. When it does it will be available through nearly 50,000 booksellers.
Until then it is available through the publisher’s book store @friesenpress — the link is in my bio.

The book is about women who have come together through their dogs. They’ve formed communities and friendships. Their stories are funny and sometimes sad, but entirely honest and inspiring.
I’m thrilled and honoured to share their journeys in this book. 🩷
