Ou-Mun Screen — Mariana Rola Pereira & Rival
WHY I CHOSE IT FROM LDW26
I was immediately drawn to the story behind this piece.
Mariana Rola Pereira brings together references to Macau, where she was born with the very Portuguese tradition of Arraiolos embroidery, while Rival brings another layer through its amazing woodworking skills.
I find the result incredibly elegant, but what interests me most is the idea behind it: tradition doesn’t have to remain frozen in time. It can travel, meet another culture or another craft, and become something completely contemporary.
That dialogue between cultures, materials and makers is one of the reasons I wanted Ou-Mun to be part of our first Edit.
