It was romantic and it’s so clear the last-minute reshoots were partially for that last scene with them. There’s odd angles of Rey and it’s so abrupt, we don’t get full payoff for *some* reason. Abrams absolutely ruined their potential ending

When the force awakens came out, I was a Star Wars novice. I’d never seen any of the other movies, I had no interest in this sandbox, and liked it that way. Then I saw Ben. And while so much of the world only saw Kylo Ren, the guy who slaughtered a village and killed Han Solo, I saw a man whose upbringing was flawed and nearly negligent due to parents who either didn’t understand him or were too busy for him, and who was eventually passed on to an uncle in hopes of “straightening him out”. A man who was othered at every turn, who only sought acceptance from his family. I saw a fictionalised version of myself (minus the murder of course). I latched on to him and the idea of him finally finding his acceptance through the love of Rey. I was so excited for the culmination of their arc and for him to get a happy ending, only for it to come crumbling at the absolute last second. The devastation i felt after walking out from TRoS was so absolute, i developed a severe depression for months, and still mourn for Ben. I stopped watching Star Wars media afterward because of my heartbreak. And no amount of retcons or fanfiction will ever reignite my love for the franchise, because the one who brought me into that world is now gone forever.

The "kiss of gratitude" is mentioned in the novelization. However, as soon as the book was released, it was immediately clarified that it was separate from the film and based solely on the author's interpretation. So, while the author was free to use any descriptor they chose, it has no connection to the cinematic universe.

We all know they tried to sell us some BS with that “gratitude” kiss. This story was meant to be something else and they squandered it. 😢

gratitude 🥲 the hands touching in TLJ is the most sexual tension we’ve seen in a Star Wars saga movie. “history will say they were just a dyad in the force” 🙃
