On October 22, a man allegedly filmed two girls ‘secretly’ while they were standing on a footpath in Guwahati’s Wireless area.
The incident came to light after the girls noticed the man holding his phone with the camera facing outward. They followed him to a nearby store, to confront him.
Speaking to ‘The Truth India’, the girls said that the man became defensive when they asked him to show his phone gallery and delete the video.
After repeatedly delaying and claiming that he could not find the gallery, they managed to access it and allegedly found the recent video lasting approximately 2 minutes and 50 seconds.
The girls also stated that the man’s phone gallery contained videos of several other girls.
Despite being confronted, he neither deleted the video nor acknowledged what he had done.
As the confrontation continued, the man attempted to escape multiple times before eventually fleeing on a scooter.
One person tried to stop him by grabbing his shirt, but he managed to get onto the scooter and speed away.
The girls expressed disappointment that despite several people witnessing the incident, nobody came forward to help them.
The scooter’s registration number was identified as AS-27E-7357.
The incident has raised concerns about women’s safety in public spaces and the unauthorised recording of women. Further details regarding any police complaint or official action are awaited.
