🌮 A major shakeup at L.A. TACO is raising questions across Los Angeles.

Journalist Memo Torres announced that he is no longer with L.A. TACO, saying the news came as a shock even to him. Readers are also questioning the reported departure of fellow journalist Izzy.

The reaction has been swift. Across Instagram and Reddit, longtime supporters are expressing frustration, demanding transparency, and in some cases announcing that they are canceling their paid subscriptions.

Founded in 2006 as a grassroots blog covering tacos, graffiti, and street culture, L.A. TACO evolved into an influential voice in independent Los Angeles journalism, reporting on immigration enforcement, local politics, food, and communities often overlooked by larger outlets.

In 2024, when the publication faced a serious financial crisis, thousands of Angelenos rallied to support it through paid memberships.

Now, some of those same supporters are asking what happened to the journalists whose reporting inspired them to subscribe.

The circumstances surrounding the departures remain unclear, and we are not drawing conclusions about why they happened.

Independent local journalism matters. So do the people who make it possible.

💬 What do you think about the situation at L.A. TACO?
