Assalamualaikum! We are honored to have Dr. @rasulmiller and @brothercyrus this upcoming Friday evening at Jackson Market (Culver City) to lead a discussion around “The American Question.”
In the wake of October 7 and the ongoing genocide in Palestine, much of the political conversation has centered on how to pressure the United States to rein in Israel. In other words, it calls on the world’s foremost imperial power, itself responsible for mass slaughter, to transform itself into an ally of the masses. This is a losing strategy, and it raises a deeper question: What is America’s role in the political order we seek to challenge, and what does it mean to confront the empire?
Bringing radical Black Muslim and global Islamist understandings of America into conversation, this event explores how these traditions understand the “enemy,” envision victory, and strategize toward it. What can we learn from their respective approaches to allegiance, mass mobilization, and building popular power?
From Palestine and Syria to the limits of American electoral politics, we will examine America’s role in sustaining imperial power, the forces capable of confronting it, and what it would take to make American power answerable to those who oppose it.
