I almost DNF'd this book and now I can't stop thinking about it.

I'm a sucker for anything involving the Salem witch trials and went into this one with high hopes. But I'm not going to lie, I wanted to quit 50 pages in.

Thank the book gods I didn't.

Somewhere along the way, this story stole my heart.

The atmosphere. The witch trials. The fear, the accusations, the injustice. And then there's the love story. 🥹

GEORGE. F*CKING. CARTWRIGHT. 🖤

I don't even know where to begin. I feel like I relate to Amity so much (and not just in the I would be sentenced to the gallows way) George. This man. The tenderness. The devotion. The way he loves her so completely, without asking her to be anything other than herself. Even when she is terrible and even when she thinks he doesn't even know her.

“My love is not a prize, doled out only when you have been good or presentable.”

I beg your finest pardon?! 😭

Sometimes there are romances that reach into the deepest, most vulnerable parts of you and make you feel something you weren't expecting.

I cried. I swooned. I kicked my feet. I sobbed at the ending.

So it was almost a DNF. Was the payoff worth every single page? You bet.

Sometimes the books you almost give up on become the ones you love the most. 🖤
